December 1st

Memories of cutting down Christmas trees with my family has always been one of my favorite things we did as a family at Christmas time. When Lee and I moved up to Fayetteville we looked into starting our own tradition of cutting a tree, but there were no farms in the area.
A few years ago we heard that there was a Christmas tree farm starting up next to the pumpkin patch that we visit every year. It was suppose to be open in 2014 but wasn't ready to open until this year. We banked on it opening in 2015 so we chunked our tree last year after Christmas. It had seen better days. ha! We decided that it would be fun to cut a tree down on Peyton's birthday every year. So Dec. 1st we cut a tree! Happy Birthday Peyton!

The birthday boy!

Much to our surprise Hookie Pookie was in a tree holding up a sign that said Pennington Tree! I guess he had been there all day looking for the perfect tree for our family!

While Lee was cutting down the tree, I had a hand on it holding it up so it wouldn't fall on him while he was under it. All the sudden when he said ,"you can let go and let the tree fall", the back quarter of the tree still stood in place. I yelled the tree split in HALF! We took a closer look to find that there were two trees that had grown up right next to each other, but had been shaped as ONE! So there stood the lonely quarter of our tree! We all had a good laugh and decided we wanted to keep it anyway. We ended up just turning the "missing" part of the tree against the wall and it looked fine! ha! I had flashes of the turkey scene in the movie Christmas Vacation. The perfect looking tree wasn't so perfect.
